RED LENTIL DAHL

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 onion diced
  • 2cm fresh ginger thinly sliced
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • 2 tsp garam masala
  • 2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 400g tinned diced tomatoes
  • 1 can coconut cream
  • 3 cups water
  • 375g dried red lentils (rinse first)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

METHOD

  1. Set the Cuisinart Meal Maker to Saute / Brown on high. Add the olive oil and saute the onion for around 5 minutes until soft and golden. Add the ginger and garlic and stir.
  2. Add all of the spices stirring constantly, then tomatoes, coconut cream and water. Lastly add the pre-rinsed lentils and stir.
  3. Switch the Meal Maker to the Custom setting. Set the pressure to high pressure + for a cooking time of 20 mins. Close the lid and press start to commence cooking. Once the audible beep sounds to tell you the dahl is cooked, press the steam release button for quick pressure release, allowing the steam to disperse.
  4. Serve with steamed rice, roti or naan bread and coriander.
