APPLE CRISP

The FusionPlus pan is the perfect vessel for this fan-favorite dessert.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons packed light brown sugar
  • 5 tablespoons granulated sugar, divided
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon, divided
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt
  • 4 tablespoons (½ stick) unsalted butter, cut into ½-inch pieces, divided
  • ¼ cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • ¼ cup (1 ounce) pecan pieces, chopped
  • 1¼ pounds tart apples, peeled, cored, and each apple cut into 8 pieces
  • ⅓ cup dried cranberries
  • Ice cream or whipped cream, for serving

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F with the rack in the center position.

  2. Combine the flour, brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of the granulated sugar, ¼ teaspoon of the cinnamon, and the salt in a medium bowl or food processor. Add 3 tablespoons of the butter to the dry ingredients, and blend with a pastry cutter, mash with your fingers, or pulse in a food processor until combined. The crumble should have the texture of wet sand. Add the oats and pecans, and mix to combine. Reserve.

  3. Heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of the butter in the FusionPlus™ 10-inch pan over medium heat. Add the apples, the remaining 3 tablespoons of the granulated sugar, and the remaining ¼ teaspoon of the cinnamon. Sauté until the sugar is dissolved, about 5 minutes. Stir in the cranberries. Remove the pan from the heat.

  4. Spread the reserved crumble evenly over the apples. Place the pan in the oven. Bake until the apples are tender and the topping is crispy, 35 to 40 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
